The Rosewood Mother and Baby Unit is an eight bedded inpatient ward based on the Greenacres site in Dartford. It was opened in August 2018 for women primarily across Kent Sussex and Surrey who require specialist support and treatment to support their mental health and emotional well-being in the perinatal period. Women can be admitted from 32 weeks of pregnancy and into the postnatal period anytime until their baby’s first birthday.
Women and their families are supported by a dedicated team of health professionals 24 hours a day ranging from Mental Health Nurses, Health Visitor, Midwife, Occupational Therapist, Peer Support Workers, Nursery Nurses, Physical Health Nurse and Health Care Support Workers. The team is led by the units Matron, a Consultant Psychiatrist and Psychologist who all work closely with our mums, baby’s and their families with therapeutic interventions to support their journey and recovery. The team at Rosewood also work with wider perinatal mental health teams and community services to support ongoing care.
Rosewood is one of four new units commissioned by NHS England to improve access and quality of perinatal mental health services and we are fortunate to have Rosewood now positioned close by in Dartford. This means that women locally who may need specialist services and additional support with their mental health in the perinatal period now have better access to care and treatment without the need to travel far or be separated from their baby. This allows the maternal infant relationship to continue to develop and grow without any interruption for treatment as well as improving the long term benefits to both.
Rosewood Mother and Baby Unit offers women who require support with their mental health the opportunity to remain with their baby whilst accessing the best treatment and care. Referrals can be made to Rosewood by any health care professional who feels the unit may be beneficial.
