In the early days, your baby will probably need just 2 to 3 baths in a week; but you can still do a ‘top and tail’ wash every day. The Community team can support you with the first bath at home if you need reassurance.
General advice for bathing your baby.
- Use plain water for at least the first month to help protect baby’s delicate skin. You can start using gentle baby soaps and shampoos later on.
- Make sure that your baby is not hungry, tired, or has just been fed before you bath.
- Choose a room is warm and draught free.
- Have everything ready before your baby’s bath. They will need:
- Never leave baby unattended.
What you will need:
- Baby bath or clean washing up bowl.
- Hooded towel.
- Changing mat.
- Cotton wool and sponge.
- Clean nappy and change of clothes.
